The first line of defence on the incoming supply: they hold back sand and debris that ruin mixers, solenoid valves and heat exchangers.
Polyphosphate dosing units
Where a full softener is not needed, they protect the boiler from scaling at very little cost and in very little space.

Point-of-use filtration and microfiltration, for anyone who wants to stop buying bottled water without changing the taste.
Treating the water in the heating system
The water circulating in the heating system needs conditioning and filtering: magnetic dirt separators and inhibitors extend the life of pumps and heat exchangers.

What we look at before choosing the system
The right treatment depends on the water arriving at the house and on how the system is built, not on the best-selling product.
- The actual hardness of the mains water, measured on site rather than taken from a local average.
- How many people live in the house and how many bathrooms there are, because they determine the flow rate required.
- Where the meter is and whether there is space and a drain for the regeneration.
- The condition of the existing pipework: in very old systems a softener has to be introduced with care.
- Whether there is a combi boiler, which is the component most exposed to scaling.
- Whether the whole house needs treating or it is enough to protect the plant.
- Who will look after the salt and the routine maintenance: this is the part that often gets forgotten.
Frequently asked questions about softeners and water treatment
Is softened water safe to drink?
Yes, if the softener is set correctly: the hardness should not be taken to zero but down to a residual value. Completely softened water tastes unpleasant and is aggressive towards the pipework.
What does it cost to run?
The recurring cost is salt and an annual check. Consumption depends on the incoming hardness and the number of people in the house: we estimate it for you before you buy.
Does a softener really save money?
It does not pay for itself on the water bill; its value comes from extending the life of the boiler, the heating elements and the taps. In hard-water areas the difference shows in the call-outs you no longer need.
Where is it installed?
Immediately after the meter, before the branches. It needs about half a metre of space and a drain nearby for the regeneration water.
Who does the maintenance?
For periodic servicing we rely on the service centres of the brands we install; for the salt and the simple checks we show you how to do it yourself.
